What is the ideal way for a beginner to start surfing? In our surf courses and in our surf camp on Feurteventura, we pick you up and guide you step by step through the technique of surfing.
Before our beginners hit the beach, we start every surf course with a safety briefing. Safety is the top priority at our surf camp. In addition to the rules of conduct in and out of the water, we explain the sport to you in terms of waves, sandbanks, the various currents and the influence of the tides. As you can’t surf without equipment, we will also explain the different types of equipment and how to use them.
Me, the surfboard and the love of the “washing machine”
The first day of surfing at the surf camp on Fuerteventura is themed “ABC – Agility, Balance, Coordination”. Here you can get used to the surfboard for the first time on the beach of El Cotiilo and find the optimal position on the board. However, before everyone plunges into the waves, the leash is tied on correctly and you learn to carry the board through the white water. So that you can later master the balancing act on the surfboard like a pro, you will first experiment with shifting your weight on the surfboard and getting a feel for the right position. After getting used to the water, it’s back to the beach for you – the first push-up on the surfboard is imminent. Balance is now on the agenda and the push-up can be transferred from dry to wet. And so the first day of the surf course draws to a close, after plenty of white water waves and a few “washing machines” (colloquial term for being swept along by the wave and washed through).
