What is a good surfboard for beginners?

The choice of surfboards on the market is huge. It is important to know that the right surfboard depends on your weight, size and fitness! As tempting as it may look, as a surfing beginner you have no business on a shortboard.

A good surfboard for beginners is longer, wider and has more volume than a shortboard, which you can see many surfers using in the water. This gives you more stability and makes it easier for you to paddle, which is an advantage as a beginner surfer.

Size and volume: stability is key

For beginners, the bigger and more voluminous the board, the better. A longer, wider board offers more buoyancy and stability, which makes paddling and standing up easier. Boards with a length between 7’0 “and 9’0” are ideal, depending on your height and weight.

Shape: The shape makes the difference

A mini malibu or funboard with a round nose offers you the necessary stability and makes paddling easier. These shapes are ideal for beginners as they offer a good balance between control and maneuverability.

Why should the first surfboard for beginners be a soft top?

Value for money: Quality pays off

Invest in a high-quality board. Cheap models may be tempting, but they often don’t offer the necessary stability and durability. A good beginner board costs between 300 and 500 euros – an investment that pays off.

How much should a beginner surfboard cost?

Spend as much money as you can afford. However, always take into account how often you want to use the board. If it is intended for two weeks in summer, you don’t have to spend as much as if you will be using the board much more often.

Which surfboards do we use for our beginners?

Our school uses boards from OceanEarth as beginner boards. The school boards from OceanEarth are not only suitable for beginners. They also offer advanced surfers a maximum riding experience in the waves.

The boards are reinforced with three T-bars, two on the upper side and one at the bottom in the middle, giving the board maximum stability. The board is separated by a block in the fin area. This means that no water flows into the board even if the fin is loose. The boards are designed for extreme quality and stability.
