October at Freshsurf Surf Camp Surfer Girls

October at Freshsurf Surfcamp was a month of change – calm, warm and full of wonderful encounters.

At the beginning of the month it was time to say goodbye with a heavy heart: after many wonderful weeks at the surf house, our dear Lena finished her internship with us – lots of people here already miss her!

Lena’s last days coincided with the arrival of our new intern, Rita. Rita was very fortunate, as this meant there was enough time for Lena to pass her all valuable knowledge.

Besides spending many hours in the water, we also enjoyed what Cotillo and the surrounding area had to offer on land.

Enjoying a cosy coffee and a sweet treat in Lajares, sunset hikes to the Calderón Hondo volcano and spontaneous shopping trips were definitely part of the October experience at Freshsurf Surfcamp.

After surfing or for some of us after finishing their remote work for the day, we went to Corralejo and browsed through the sales. Ronja, who had arrived at the surf house a few days earlier joined us and couldn’t contain her excitement about her diving course!

On this day we were all in the mood for something healthy and energy-rich and decided to try the bowls from Ojala Poke. We added a refreshing drink from the supermarket and headed to the beach to enjoy our meal.

Small group of guests, more space for encounters and quiet moments

October at Freshsurf Surfcamp was a cosy month at the surf house – less hustle and bustle, more space for personal conversations, long breakfasts and spontaneous excursions. Of course, our dear regular guest was always there – Alex has become such a part of the surf house that some people no longer know whether he is a guest or already part of the team. His remote job makes it possible! You can’t blame him – Cotillo, the surf house community and surfing in between make it difficult to leave!

Leon, a good friend from Alex’s hometown, spent almost two weeks with us. He quickly became part of the family and we had a great time surfing together. In October, we were delighted to welcome Julia and Michelle back again, who have been loyal guests at Freshsurf for many years.

Cotilleando Festival

The Cotilleando Festival in the middle of the month transformed El Cotillo into a small, magical artists’ village for a weekend – with street music, colourful costumes and lots of good cheer.

Whether dancing in the plaza, watching performances by talented dancers and artists, or sitting together comfortably and chatting by the sea at night – the whole community was out and Cotillo filled with a magical atmosphere.

The following programme was offered to us:

The start of the wave season – and what a start!

By mid-October conditions were already perfect: little wind, consistent waves with the perfect strength, so that everyone – from beginner to pro – got their waves.

Even calmer days, when at first glance the sea resembled a lake, surprised us. Once we got into the water, we were rewarded and had great fun in the baby waves. It was the best opportunity to work on our technique in peace.

At the end of the month, the first winter swell arrived – with some really big waves. Everyone had been really excited in the days leading up to it, and it was worth the wait. In the evening, we saw lots of tired but happy faces among our surfers.

Summary

October at Freshsurf Surfcamp was a month full of wonderful transitions for us – new faces, familiar guests, magical Fuerteventura moments and the first big waves of the season.
We are already looking forward to what winter has in store – even more swell, sun, surf and of course all the new people we will welcome to our surf camp next month.
