Osteopathy – Relaxation for Surfers

Especially as a beginner surfer, you are often tense after the first day of the surf class and your body is overwhelmed by the unfamiliar movements in the water. This often results in inflammation, muscle tension or sprains. It can help to release the blockage that has arisen in the water with osteopathy.

Lisa uses targeted hand movements to counteract the pain and release the pressure. She also shows you exercises that you can do at home to counteract overuse.

Whether you are a surfer or not, thanks to Lisa’s many years of experience as an osteopath, she can help you to release your blockages and relax your body. You can find more information about osteopathy here!

Osteopathy on Fuerteventura with Lisa

I’m Lisa and I’d like to invite you to my treatment room in El Cotillo or come directly to your home.
I have lived here on Fuerteventura for several years and am an enthusiastic surfer. I have found my passion in osteopathy.

Osteopathy is a holistic discipline that deals with the body as a whole. The human body is therefore viewed as a whole and not as a disjointed set of parts. Everything is interconnected.
By observing the patient and asking questions to solve the problem, I am able to restore the functionality of the body in the best possible way.

What therapies do you use in osteopathy on Fuerteventura?

Spinal and fascial manipulation, muscle relaxation techniques and deep tissue massage are used to alleviate or eliminate pain.

What is the difference between osteopathy and physiotherapy?

The difference between an osteopath and a physiotherapist lies in the training. I completed a three-year degree in physiotherapy and then studied osteopathy for six years.

What is the difference between osteopathy and massage?

The difference between an osteopath and a massage therapist lies in the approach and the use of different techniques. The osteopath is not concerned with the elimination of pain from a palliative point of view, but looks for the cause of the problem.

What is osteopathy simply explained?

Osteopathy is the realisation of the osteopathic philosophy into a manual diagnosis and treatment concept that focusses on the person and not the disease. It is a holistic approach with the aim of stimulating the autoregulation of the organism.

What can I expect from an osteopath?

The osteopath looks at your body, examines your posture and, if necessary, the mobility of your spine and other joints. He may carry out further tests, such as checking your reflexes and blood pressure.

What can osteopathy trigger?

Side effects of osteopathy usually occurs when too much has been treated at once. This pain after treatment may be the same pain with which the patient came to the osteopath. It may also be that something has shifted and other parts of the body are now reporting.

What is the difference between physiotherapy and osteopathy?

Osteopathy has established itself as an alternative, complementary form of treatment to physiotherapy and is now regarded as a recognised, reputable form of therapy. With the osteopathy, the therapist (=osteopath) takes a holistic view of the person.

For which psychological stresses can osteopathy provide relief?

Serious psychological conditions such as depression should not be treated by an osteopath alone. However, the Osteopathy is often a good accompanying therapy here too.

What does the osteopath feel?

If a person seeking help comes to an osteopath with headaches, for example, the therapist will primarily examine the statics and position of the head, but also the spine, ankles and internal organs.
