learning spanish together after surfing - water splash

Besides the surf lessons, we have lots of other options for spending your holiday on Fuerteventura productively. After all, not everyone just wants to “switch off” on holiday – some also want to use the opportunity to learn something new. Alongside Surfen, learning Spanish is also on the programme. This happens either in a Spanish course or together at the Surfhouse, unser surf camp on Fuerteventura. In today’s weekly review you’ll also find the highlights from this week’s surf lessons.

Calima survived – now the perfect waves are waiting!

Last weekend the annual Calima sandstorm raged over the Canary Islands, and we had our hands full braving the hot and dusty weather. Temperatures can easily climb to 40 degrees, and the only things that help are eating lots of ice cream and cooling off in the sea in the evening. After the hot days, the pleasant temperatures and cooler nights soon returned. We were also rewarded with beautiful waves that quickly made us forget the heat.

The best stories from the surf lessons

After just a few surf lessons, Martin dared to join the intermediate course. He is full of energy and is passionate not only about surfing but also about bodyboarding, which has long been one of his passions.

Our younger guest Kai had a private surf lesson with Simo this week. The two had a great time, and afterwards Simo even had the honour of writing in Kai’s friendship book.

Learning Spanish together after surfing

This week, besides her surf lessons, Joana also attended a Spanish course in El Cotillo. Learning a new language is no easy task, so at the Surfhouse we often use our homemade collection of Spanish/German flashcards, which we occasionally use for practising and quizzing each other. Learning is always more fun together, and we motivate each other to learn the new vocabulary quickly. When we go out to eat together or similar, we turn it into a challenge to communicate only in Spanish – that’s always fun!
