Do you want to work on your surfing skills, but there are no waves at the moment? Or are you a thoroughbred surfer, but unfortunately you don’t live right by the sea and always have to travel long distances to the nearest surf spot, but still want to work on your turns every day and feel the board under your feet? Then you should give street surfing on the Carver boards a try!
Carver boards were developed in California in the 90s and are much more maneuverable than normal skateboards and have a completely different steering behavior than the usual skateboards thanks to a rotating arm in the axle, making it possible to make very agile and cut turns or even slalom turns. When carving, the movement sequences are very, very similar to those in surfing and so you can work on your back and frontside turns, but also on cutbacks, bottom turns and pumping, allowing you to pick up speed just like in surfing.
Carving is therefore the perfect additional training for surfing, which is also possible out of the water and allows you to make great progress, which is then also noticeable in the water later on. The boards are available in some skate stores and cost around 300 euros. So before you go straight out and buy one, take a look at it first, test it out and then decide whether you want to include carving in your regular surf training.
In any case, our surf coach Jordi swears by street surfing and will take you on a carver session the basics of carving here in El Cotillo. He himself has regularly integrated carving into his weekly surfing routine for several years and has made great progress as a result. He himself is fascinated by carving and wants to continuously improve his surfing skills in general. You simply get a much better feel for the board, whether in the water or on the street, and there’s no shortage of fun either. So, how about a carver session here on the streets of El Cotillo? 😉
