What makes the perfect surfing conditions truly perfect?

Wind & waves – the heart of your session

One thing is clear: without waves, there is no surfing. And wind determines how gentle or powerful these waves are. A light offshore breeze smooths the waves – perfect for beginners or a relaxed ride. Too much wind? Things quickly become chaotic. And no wind? Then you sometimes get standing waves rather than good sets. So it’s clear: wind and waves are the basis for a successful day of surfing.

Water quality & weather – comfort counts

Rain can cloud the water and change currents – a real surprise at home. And water temperature? It determines whether you surf in shorts or unpack your 5/4 wetsuit. Thunderstorms are also a no-go – electrifying conditions are no fun, but a risk.

Tides – timing is everything

Ebb or flood – both influence lines and sandbanks. Good tides provide the sweet spot for line-up and water depth, bad ones sometimes make it impossible. If you internalise the timing, you will surf much more relaxed and are more likely to find the perfect surfing conditions.

Crowd – Less is more

Surfing is community – but too many people on too few waves? That quickly ruins the flow. Fewer, friendly surfers mean more waves, more safety and more fun. The perfect surfing conditions = those where you don’t dig trivially.

Surfing level & board selection – Do not play cautiously

A beginner needs gentle, consistent waves and a wide, stable board. If someone who is still unsure tries their hand at Dutch ground swells on a 6’0 shortboard, frustration is inevitable. It’s all about trust – in the water, in your board and, above all, in yourself. And here, the right setting makes all the difference.

Flow & Substrate – The invisible game changers

Currents, dozens of drop-offs, nasty reefs – all of these things fundamentally change your surfing experience. ‘Perfect surfing conditions’ largely eliminate these disruptive factors. At the camp in particular, we value spots that remain controllable – and are fun.
