FAQs
What surf courses are available on Fuerteventura?
On Fuerteventura, there are surf courses for beginners, intermediates, children, families and private 1:1 coaching. The type of course that makes sense depends on how much experience you already have, how intensively you want to learn and whether you are surfing alone, with friends or with your family.
How learning to surf on Fuerteventura usually works
Learning to surf rarely happens in one big leap. It usually happens step by step:
Get a feel for the board, waves and water.
Surfing the first waves in white water.
Build up security and timing.
Depending on the level, work on green waves and technique.
That’s why there is no one right surf course for everyone – but different formats for different starting points.
What types of surf course are there?
Here you can get a quick overview of the different surf course formats on Fuerteventura – and how they differ.
Surf course for beginners
For all those who have little or no experience. It’s all about safety, first waves, take-off and a good feeling in the water.

Which course suits you?
If you are not yet sure which course is right for you, these questions will help you:
I am a complete beginner - where do I start?
With the beginner surf course. There you will learn the basics step by step: safety, first waves, take-off and a feel for the water.
I want to work specifically on my technique - which is better?
Then private surf coaching is usually the better choice. You get full attention, individual feedback and can work on exactly the points that are currently slowing you down.
I am traveling with my family - is there a suitable course?
Yes, in the family surf course you get your own surf instructor just for your family. This means that children, parents and different learning speeds can be catered for individually.
I just want to test whether surfing is something for me at all.
Then the taster course is a good fit. It gives you a first real impression without you having to plan several days straight away.
How long should a surf course last?
That depends on what you’re looking for:
- 1 day: ideal for trying out
- 3 days: good for getting to grips with the basics
- 5 days: useful if you want to learn more sustainably and become safer in the water
Surfing is not a sprint. The more time you give yourself, the more relaxed and sustainable your progress will be.
When are the best conditions?
Fuerteventura is an exciting surfing destination all year round. Which conditions are best depends on the level, the wind and the swell.
Sheltered spots and smaller conditions are ideal for beginners. For more advanced surfers, other beaches and waves become interesting depending on the forecast.
This is precisely why the daily choice of spot is so important – and one of the reasons why course quality depends not only on the teacher, but also on the right decision on the right day.
How are surf courses organized at FreshSurf?
FreshSurf does not run its own surf school. Instead, we work together with selected, experienced partners.
Group courses take place in cooperation with Riders Surf’n Bike. Private coaching and family courses are run by independent coaches.

Combine surf course and accommodation
Many guests combine their surf course with accommodation in El Cotillo or Lajares. Depending on how you want to travel, different houses and apartments will suit you better.

No. You don’t need any previous knowledge for beginner surf courses. The only important thing is that you want to try something new.
Can I surf for just one day?
Yes, that’s what the taster course is for. If you want to learn in a more sustainable way, several days make more sense.
Which surf course is suitable for children?
