On 28 September 2013 the time had come: around 50 surfers paddled on the Stadtparksee lake in Hamburg.
More than 14,000 euros were raised for two charitable projects for children.
We thought this was a really great initiative, which is why we donated the main prize.
It was won by Philipp Jacobsen from Sylt, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him here soon.
Our Chris was there and, in glorious weather, captured lots of great sportsmanship on video and then presented the prize to the happy winner. We’ll show you the whole thing in a short clip later this week.

But how exactly did it all work?
A course was marked out in the Stadtpark: one lap consisted of about 300 metres of paddling on the water and then walking back. Before the event, each participant had found sponsors who pledged an amount per lap. So the goal was to complete as many laps as possible within 2 hours.
The winner, Philipp Jacobsen, managed 36 laps in the end and paddled in around 3,900 in donations. Respect!
This year the proceeds go to the projects “Therapeutic surfing” for children with cancer at the Syltklinik and swimming support for socially disadvantaged children run by the association LuFisch e.V.
An awesome initiative – huge respect to all participants.
Thanks to the organisers, the volunteers and the other sponsors.
