FreshSurf – for me, that means taking a completely new path in life. Away from hectic office life and towards a job that not only helps me expand my expertise but also gives me a whole new feeling for life. Just be yourself, don’t pretend and do your own thing. Let yourself be guided by what YOU feel like doing, rather than letting a packed schedule decide your day. Working creatively & innovatively without having to stick to rigid rules.
Of course, work shouldn’t be neglected, but everything should be approached a little more calmly – and when my energy overflows, as it does all too often, I can simply burn it off on the water… surfing, surfing, surfing…
See you in El Cotillo on Fuerteventura!

MY TIME WITH FRESHSURF – a little look back
Well, I actually only wanted to stay at FreshSurf for 5 months and now I’ve been here for 1.5 years… hmm, something seems to have gone wrong there… 😉
All in all, I can look back on a great time – often stressful but absolutely hilarious in the office, and more than once we cried with laughter over our mistakes – but hey, nobody’s perfect, and I think we’ve run the place pretty well recently.
I still remember how in February 2010 we celebrated whenever we had more than 5 surf students, and now we sometimes have a flock of more than 35 students. A lot has changed at FreshSurf over the last 1.5 years:
We have new partners, new cars and our great new surf camp on Fuerteventura, into which we’ve put a lot of sweat and passion. And not to forget the people who stay here for longer or shorter periods – the guests on the one hand and the staff on the other, some of whom I’ve seen come and go.
To name just a few, there were my flatmates Steff, Adrian, Pepe and sweet Valli (who bravely got through the “Mrs. Hurley Contest” with me), and all the wonderful people from the Marea Viva Hostel, including Tom, Nico, Isi and Tobi, with whom we had incomparable party nights. I’ll also miss the current team terribly – the ones who will actually “survive” me this time – especially little Georgie, who is almost like a brother to me, and my dear Suse, who will no doubt stand in for me well. Oh yes, and not to forget Toby, who often drove me crazy but was also a great boss (yes, yes, I know you don’t like that word), who gave me an incomparable time here that I wouldn’t want to miss and in which I was able to grow a lot as a person.
Well, that’s it from me – I’m heading back to uni now to do my master’s, although I don’t quite know how I’ll survive without surfing, surfing, surfing… But as I’ve just heard, I’ll always be welcome here, so I’ll say see you soon to all guests, staff and friends.
Thanks for the wonderful time & one last time, warm greetings from Fuerteventura from
your Maria
