Wetsuits are an important piece of surfing equipment that you often can’t do without. Even when surfing on Fuerteventura, you need a wetsuit almost all year round, except in summer when board shorts and lycra are sufficient. As our wetsuits are in frequent use, it is important to take good care of them so that you can use them for as long as possible.
Our team from the surf camp on Fuerteventura has collected a few tips for you on how best to look after your wetsuits:
You should rinse the suit thoroughly with clear water after every surf. The salt water hardens the material, which means it will break more quickly. When you rinse the wetsuit, it is important to rinse both the inside and the outside.
You should not hang the wetsuit in the sun to dry. It’s best to let it dry in the shade or hang it in the shower. If you take a break from surfing for a few days, turn the wetsuit over so that the inside and outside dry. Don’t hang the wetsuit on the hanger by the shoulders, as this stretches the material and it won’t fit as well.
You should occasionally wash your suit in a suitable care product. This will remove even small salt residues that would otherwise not be detected when rinsing. It also maintains the material and keeps the neoprene flexible.
These care steps take about 10 minutes of your time, which you should definitely invest in order to use your suit as long as possible for surfing on Fuerteventura or at another spot.
