We forgive the rain—
Because it gave us a green Fuerteventura!

January on Fuerteventura was different. Unexpected. And that’s exactly why it was so special.
It would be a lie to say that the rain didn’t surprise us time and time again. Not just once, not just briefly. Fuerteventura hasn’t seen as much rain as it did this January in years. And yet – or perhaps precisely because of this – this month was a real eye-opener.

A completely new island feeling

Between showers, the sun kept coming out, bringing with it endless rainbows. We quickly realized that it had been absolutely worth it to get our rain jackets out a few times. With each subsequent rain shower, we could see how our island was slowly transforming.
The familiar dry desert landscape gradually developed into an almost unrecognizable new island and a green Fuerteventura.

Suddenly, it began to sprout in places where one would never have thought anything could ever grow. The road to the airport became a highlight: one now drove through areas that, with a little imagination, were reminiscent of Hawaii.

Road trip through green Fuerteventura

This transformation was particularly impressive in the south. A road trip to Cofete took us through landscapes we had hardly ever seen before. And the return journey through the Betancuria Rural Park to Cotillo was topped off with stunning views and new shades of green mingling with the setting sun—a January we won’t forget in a hurry.

Community, dinner, and sunsets

In addition to all the moments spent enjoying nature, it was above all the shared experiences that shaped this month. Shared dinners and surfing sessions, new acquaintances and long conversations, as well as sunsets that allowed us to forget everything else for a moment. Plus spontaneous skateboarding sessions that kept us in good spirits even on gray days.

Barbecue Night im Surfhouse

As always, we were delighted to welcome back some familiar faces. Anne, who had only been with us in December for Vitamin Sea Retreat Volume 1, spent another week with us and brought not only her surfing skills but also a lot of dancing energy. Together with Saskia and our intern Rita, we went to the new dance social at the Canela Bar in Lajares—just a 15-minute drive from the surf house. They recently started offering free dance lessons every Thursday, followed by an open dance night!
You can find more information about all current events on the Canela Bar’s Instagram account 🙂

A January that stays

This month has shown that Fuerteventura has many faces. And that even an unusually rainy January can bring something very special.
We are happy to forgive it—because it has given us a green Fuerteventura, which we hope to enjoy for a while longer!
