My internship on Fuerteventura – it’s me, Louisa

Praktikantin Fuerteventura Louisa

You could already guess that the sea and I would one day build a very special relationship when, aged four, I stood on the coast in tears at the end of a family holiday in Italy and simply couldn’t understand why I had to leave again. My mum literally had to carry me away to separate me from the sea.

Since then it has called me back again and again, lulled me and enchanted me, and I’ve followed its call: on family holidays, a school exchange to Australia, a semester abroad in Chile, countless trips and six months travelling through Central and South America. I never missed a chance to be close to its rolling waves. And I still can’t get enough of it – in fact, the more and the more often I spend time with it, the more it fascinates me (and yes, I’m still talking about the sea, not my lover).

I only got into surfing last summer, though, when I went to the French Atlantic coast with a few friends, some of them surf-crazy, and fell head over heels in love (again, with surfing ;). Since then I’ve been surfing in Morocco once more, which only confirmed that I’d definitely need more time for the board and me than a mere 10 days.

So it was perfect timing that, while procrastinating on writing my master’s thesis, I came across a job offer at Fresh Surf by chance (or was it fate?) and applied on impulse. A week later it was settled: I’d fulfil a long-held dream and, after graduating, be able to live and work by the sea for four months and have the chance to take my surf skills to pro level (haha I wish). So now my path – as my friends so aptly put it – leads me to Fuerte.

I’m looking forward to a wonderful time here on the island, welcoming you at the beach house in the mornings and having fun with you in the evenings, to great guests, new friendships, exciting experiences and the odd perfect wave.

Besitos, Louisa
