The Human-Being Who is Tyler? |
From what I can gather about myself, I Love shooting photos and travels all around the world to do what I like, make my own decisions and get up and go where ever it might be on short notice. When I first started shooting I was a little grom out surfing the pier then got into shooting and stepped it up for a water housing. Shooting in the ocean can sometimes work or not even. That is what makes it interesting. Currently I been spending every winter in California shooting snowboard photos but when it comes to summers I spend them back in jersey shooting and getting to see old friends… sometime our surf gets good really good.

Passions: |
I plan on shooting more and traveling more . I would like to eventually set up a team with assistants and a digital team to take on advertising based work. Photography is very competitive, be awesome to have a rep or agent so I can spend my time shooting and not searching for business which allows me to shoot more days a year, if I only planned on editorial submissions I would of be done shooting years ago because I would been broke. keep flying to Germany to see my girlfriend.

What is pushing you? |
Well after I first started shooting when I was around 16 and got a photo published I wanted to shoot full time to pay the bills. Then reality set in and I was like damn it is hard to make money this way and I don’t want to do side work that isn’t photo related. I just want to concentrate on photography its that and also a photography teacher told me I will never make it in sports photography.I love learning, every time you shoot you figure out more pieces to the puzzle. You will always realize another tool to add to you list of equipment. I like the planning out process and thinking of possibilities, angles, placement, where are flashes going since they better all be hidden.

The Photographer How did you get interested in photography? |
When I was 15 or so I broke my arm snowboarding then filmed while in the cast until my dad lent me his Nikon 35mm manual. Used that for a year with a cheap telephoto lens. Eventually almost every dollar I was making was going right toward new equipment. Now I question why I didn’t buy everything used back then?

Are you trained or not? |
In high school for all 4 years I always took graphic design which had a darkroom. I never really did the computer assignments and since no one shot photos I got to take advantage of all the schools film pretty much so I stayed busy shooting almost every day after school. Then for my last 2 years I was able to get credits for school by going to a vocational school for graphic design with a major in photo. It was cool I had a solid 3 .5 hrs a day between darkrooms. Saved so much money using there film as I look back, but now today all kids are starting on digital and proof every photo for there exposure it is crazy or hear a lot of people say I’ll fix it in photoshop.

Which photographers inspire you? |
There are so many out there who kill it the list goes on Richard Avedon, Danny Clinch,

|
What is your preference? |
I really enjoy Nature backcountry snowboarding style shooting. There are so many angles but on the other hand it is fun being out in the line up with you buddies talking over ideas. For wave photos they get you stoked out whenever and you never get tired of a good wave photo.

Surfphotography Surf Pics – Why? |
Well first I try to not shoot the stock angle like mostly all surf photogs from the beach do. To me that is boaring, sometimes it might be necessary. I enjoy good communication always try to talk to every one before they paddle out or in the water. A better understanding equals a better image overall. I like to go through the surf mags and see dope in water photos!!
